Man Issued $55 Million Settlement Against Honda

A Pennsylvania jury ruled that Honda Motor Company should pay $55.3 million to a Pennsylvania man due to a faulty seatbelt. The Pennsylvania man, Carlos Martinez, was driving his Acura Integra when he had a sudden tire blow out. The blow out caused Martinez to lose control of the vehicle and sent him into a rollover accident.

Martinez and his attorney claim that the seat belt he was wearing didn’t keep his head from hitting the roof of the vehicle. The impact to the head is believed to be what caused his paralysis.

On top of suing for personal injury damages, Martinez’s attorney argued for damages for the following as well:

  • Bad design of the seatbelt
  • Medical expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of income
  • Consortium loss
